🛑 Stop applying for jobs

THE AI BUSINESS PLAYBOOK Issue: #02 Read time: 4 min

You're looking for a job backwards.

Most people treat their career like someone begging:

  • Hoping that someone opens their resume
  • Praying they get a reply to their email
  • And waiting to be picked.

This is called Job Seeking.

It’s lonely

It’s stressful

And it rarely works

The Problem: You have no power.

When you seek a job you tell the company "I need you more than you need me."

You hand over all your leverage before you say hello.

There's a better way.

The Solution: Start Job Shopping.

You need to flip the script.
Stop acting like an applicant.
Start acting like a shopper.

"When you buy a house you don't hope the seller likes you. You inspect the foundation. You check the roof. You ask hard questions. And you need to do the same with your next employer."

The Job Shopper Protocol

Stop blasting resumes.
Start auditing companies.

Use AI to do your homework before you talk to a recruiter.

Here is the 3 Step Audit I use.

Step 1

The Culture Scan

Please don't simply trust the "About Us" page.
It's full of marketing fluff.

Instead...

1/ Go to Glassdoor.

2/ Copy the last 50 reviews.

3/ Paste them into ChatGPT or Claude:

Prompt: Analyze these reviews. Identify the recurring complaints about leadership and work life balance. Ignore the one off rants. Give me the patterns.

Now you know the truth.

(that's something we can actually work with)

Step 2

The Strategy Check

Most candidates ask boring questions.
(But not you)

Find the company latest annual report or press release and then use this prompt:

Prompt: Act as a Consultant. Read this report. List the 3 biggest problems this company faces in the next year. For each problem write a question I can ask the Hiring Manager to show I understand their pain.

Step 3

The Anti-Pitch

When you're in the interview, STOP TRYING TO SELL YOURSELF.

Instead, focus on solving THEIR ISSUES.

Use the insights from Step 2.

"I saw in your report supply chain issues are a major risk. How is your team handling this right now?"

The Result:

You stop looking like someone who needs a paycheck.
And start looking like a consultant who solves problems.

The Takeaway:

Job Seekers beg.
Job Shoppers choose.

Use your tools to choose wisely.

TL;DR

  • Stop acting like a beggar: "Job Seeking" signals neediness. Flip the script to "Job Shopping"—audit employers like you’re buying a house.
  • Ignore the "About Us" fluff: Use AI to analyze Glassdoor reviews and annual reports. Find the strategic pain points before you speak to a recruiter.
  • Master the "Anti-Pitch": Stop selling yourself as a candidate. Start interviewing as a consultant who offers solutions.
